Classes

Adult Gymnastics classes (18+) held on Mon, Tues, Wed & Thurs evenings 7:30pm – 9pm @ £5

Info:Approx 15 people average each session, with a variety of age ranges and backgrounds.

Users: Gymnasts, Martial Artists, Break dancers, Cheerleaders, Acrobats & Various Individuals with an interest in improving their health, flexibility and fitness.

Ages regularly range from 18-40+

Class structure:
Typically people gather 5 or 10mins before hand for the social element, then follows a series of warm-ups and stretches and conditioning moves that lasts about 30mins. No pressure is placed up any individuals to complete the moves and everyone works out at their own pace. However there is a definite vibe to ‘keep up with the crowd’ which can ‘over stretch’ new visitors on their first session. So be careful!

After the warm-ups and conditioning, we are free to use the as facilities as we wish. This can be daunting to new people, so it may be a good idea to sit back for a bit and watch others in order to get a feel for what might be comfortable to attempt. The Coach is always on hand to help out anyone that doesn’t know where to start.

List of classes:

(important: call the gym up for confirmation, as these classes may not be running)

My grandson is 3yrs and 3 thonths old. His mother wishes to send him to yr gym to learn and to burn up his excessive energy. He is very flexible, active and a daredevil who needs giddance, possiblly a potential gymnast.
Please return details of fun gym classes or any other relevant training, also your locality, times and prices.

Hi – I am a fit and fairly flexible 37 year old that would love to be able to do some sort of amateur tumbling. At the moment I can manage a dodgy cartwheel. Would your adult classes be suitable for me (as a beginner) or can you suggest a more appropriate place to start? Many thanks.

yes yes and yes. There’s a biiig range of abilities at the adult classes, and its a really friendly environment to come along and have a go. Whether thats just stretching out and doing some basic moves, or getting back all those crazy flips you did when you were a kid! Just turn up, pay at the door and you’ll be hooked I guarantee it :)

you can wear whatever you feel comfortable with. Many wear shorts or sweatpants/tracksuit bottoms and t-shirts. I think there’s a few photos on here that reveal what the average person wears.

I’m a freerunner but i’m looking for a gym in order to start learning flips as theres only so much i can do on the streets, the adult classes seem to me to be a ideal place to start to learn but i’m wondering when you say you can use the equipment any way you want does this mean i would be able to use some of your equipment to practice my parkour techniques? or strictly gym?

I think pretty much everything is cool to train on.. the only thing I know they freak out about is wall flips. Its an insurance thing apparently. For flips its the perfect location, you can learn everything you can think of there. Hope this helps.

The classes are still happening, Tues and Thursdays from 7:30pm – 9pm @ £5. All abilities attend, you can do as much or little as you want, and get to use all the facilities. Definitely worth a visit :) Oh and I don’t think they do the adult trampolining ‘official’ classes anymore… but the tramp is always there and available to use in the regular adult gym classes.

On average there’s about 12 adults per day. The general vibe is 30mins warm up and conditioning and then we’re free to use the facilities for ourselves. The coaches are with us all night, so its easy to grab one of them and ask for some guidance. Hope this helps :)

Hi, i am really keen to start some gymnastics and build strength. I am soon to be 28. Is my body now too old to condition? I am an ex-javelin thrower (due to injury) and have always been a keen and serious athlete. I have a burning desire to achieve something physical again. Are your classes something you think i can get my teeth into?
Also i live in Clifton and don’t drive. Do you know any public transport that can get me there?
    Thanks,
    Antony

  • 29. Mark  |  August 19, 2008 at 6:29 am

yeah sure you can get your teeth into it. the place is geared up for professional training as well as people generally improving their strength, flexibility and coordination. You won’t find any bench pressing or running machines tho. The average age at the adult classes is about 25, its cheap to try out (£5) non committal and the people are all really helpful. Regarding travel there, I know a bus stops outside on Bishport Avenue, you’ll have to check the times tho… and tbh, as long as you’re not an axe murderer, you’ll probably be able to get a lift back into bristol easily with someone. Hope this helps – mark

I’m 19 years old and really passionate about both and I also want to tone up and become more stretchy, I just never had a chance as a child to take any of the courses as there were none in my area.

And also, if there are available classes, what time would they be held? As I need to be able to get a coach back. And if there aren’t, could you direct me to other places that might have those courses?

I’m 15 years old and want to get into gymnastics, I’m slim- medium built and am a little flexible but have never done any gymnastics, but i do, do dance. I was wondering if there was a class that i could join for beginners/ teenagers that may be the same ability?
    Thank you

i’m 15 years old and v. interested in starting gymnastics, i’m quite flexible as i can do splits etc. What class would be suitable for me cos i wouldn’t want to be with the younger ones who are probably miles better than me… would i ever make it to a competitive level?
